In an F1 world when teams were turning up and being many seconds off the pace, Jordan turning up and finishing 5th in its debut season seemed like a fluke. A one-off. A case of the stars aligning.

But the fact is, Eddie Jordan and his seemingly ragtag group got a car built well in advance, came up through the junior categories, and when they were going to come into F1- hired people who knew what they were doing and raised enough funds to do it.

The results were revelatory.
