Born in San Francisco in 1984, Golnaz graduated from Azadegan Art School in Tehran, in 2002, majoring in graphic design and analog photography. After completing her studies at Saddleback Community College, where she majored in Theatre.
Golnaz was one of the 15 students that was admitted into UCLA Theatre, Film and Television program in 2004. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Film, Television and Media from the University of California, Los Angeles and graduated in 2006.
In 2009, after participating in a filmmaking masterclass led by Abbas Kiarostami at the Karnameh Institute, Golnaz embarked on a pivotal role as his personal graphic designer and photo editor. This collaboration culminated in the publication of a book titled 'The Wall'. Golnaz received a full tuition scholarship from the Magic of Persia Foundation, where she pursued and received her Master of Arts degree in Directing and Producing from the London Film School, graduating in 2015.
David Lynch picked Golnaz and her short film "Avo" as the winner of The Short Film Competition for the David Lynch Master of Fine Arts in Film program 2016. Golnaz was granted a full academic tuition scholarship.
