https://www.trevdeeley.com/ Today, we’re shaking things up by stepping out of the dealership and hitting the open road with some incredible bikes. We’ve got a 2024 Softail Fat Boy, a 2024 Softail Breakout, and a brand new 2024 Low Rider ST in Tobacco Fade. Joining Geoff is Stuart and Darren, and we’re ready to dive into what makes these bikes truly special.

First up, Darren is riding his brand new Low Rider ST for the first time. His initial impressions? Pretty stoked! The seating position is super comfortable, and although he’s just breaking in the engine, it’s already clear that the 131cc engine has plenty of jam. Darren’s bike features some custom touches: blacked-out engine parts, risers, handlebars, and Öhlins suspension front and rear. He’s put a lot of thought into the controls and levers, given his background in racing. The result? A bike that’s as unique as it is powerful.

Next, Stuart shares his thoughts on the 2024 Softail Breakout. With its California look, 21-inch front wheel, and massive 240 rear tire, the Breakout is a head-turner. Stuart highlights the differences between the Breakout and the Fat Boy, noting how each bike handles differently due to their unique setups. The Softail line, introduced in 1984, has a rich history, and Stuart shares a cool Canadian connection: Duke Dufour from Montreal, who influenced the design that eventually became the iconic Fat Boy.

Speaking of the Fat Boy, it’s got a distinctive style with its chunky tires and solid wheels. Stuart mentions the analog gauge on the tank, a nod to old-school Harley-Davidson aesthetics, and contrasts it with the modern digital gauge on the Breakout. For those debating between these two models, this is a key difference.

Now, let’s talk about the ride experience. Both the Fat Boy and the Breakout offer smooth rides, but with distinct feels. The Fat Boy’s comfortable seating and taller handlebars make it a cruiser’s dream, while the Breakout’s forward controls and fist-forward posture give it a more aggressive stance. Both bikes have come a long way in terms of suspension and handling, making them more enjoyable than ever.

Darren also shares a fun (and slightly painful) story about lending his bike to Stuart for a burnout event. Let’s just say it didn’t end well, but it’s all part of the motorcycling experience. Accidents happen, but they make for great stories and a lot of laughs in hindsight.

One interesting aspect we discuss is the foot peg versus floorboard debate. Darren prefers pegs for the ability to reposition his feet, while others might enjoy the stability and comfort of floorboards. It’s all about personal preference and riding style.
