Why Did You Start PermaGroup 22 Years Ago?

I joined them as a customer in 2002, but it had been set up in November 2000 through Adin Parkins, who is my now ex-co-director. But he was an ex-firefighter who took early retirement and because obviously he'd been to many house fires and so on, he just thought that there must be something a little bit more cleaner, safer to install, something maybe without a flame.

He searched the markets and discovered [the manufacturer] and that predominantly was a commercial product. But he persuaded them that you know, 'I think we can make this work in the residential market', so he took that product on. Because it was a new product, new to consumers, people were a bit skeptical, so it didn't take off as fast as he thought it may, so when I joined him as a customer, he saw that I was doing OK fitting it, so he invited me to become contracts director and run the division of installers. We ran a team of about six teams for a while.
