Progress Reel for vimeo.com/164035421
I definitely cringe watching this over again, but I guess it only shows how much I've learned from completing this film. It's weird because I didn't really ever have a "storyboard" for my film and I went straight ahead to the animatic. I did the animatic in Flash and the rest of the actual animation in TVPaint. I did the effects in After Effects and video editing in Premiere Pro.
What I really wanted to convey in this film was for Varian (the catcaller) to realize that he was wrong. I knew I didn't want to make a film about JUST street harassment. I wanted to make a film about a catcaller who learned from his mistakes in the end. The ending was very critical for me because those are the moments where I wanted a catcaller himself to admit that street harassment is wrong. Originally, I planned for Alazne (the girl) to feel lessened by the catcalling and grow/change because of it. But then I wondered, "Why does the victim need to change?" It's not the victim who needs to undergo an arc to resolve the situation, it's the street harasser who needs to. I've researched a lot of videos about street harassment before this film, and rarely did I ever come across a video where a catcaller owns up to his/her mistakes.
