*Edit: Since several people are confused, I decided I need to explain the characters' relationships. The main character (Violet) was romantically involved with the soldier (Quigley). Quigley's sister (Isadora) was also Violet's best friend. The young girl (Sunny) who drowned was Violet's little sister (not her kid). Hope that clears things up! ^_^
