Bogoroditse Devo is the most well-known movement of Rachmaninov's exquisite Vespers, and for very good reason. It opens with beautifully contemplative, hymn-like phrases, before developing and giving way to the electric climax at the repetition of 'Rejoice, virgin mother of God'. First published in 1915 and composed for SSAATTBB, this sacred anthem is a staple of Russian Orthodox choral repertoire.

Recorded live in 2020 in St Augustine, Kilburn by kind permission of the Vicar & Churchwardens, and produced by Jonathan Coates.

Rejoice, virgin mother of God,
Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you.
Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb,
for you have borne the Savior of our souls.
