I review my Springfield Prodigy 5,800 rounds after optimization by my gunsmith. The Prodigy is a double stack 1911 that offers the shootability of a 1911, standard 17-round magazine , and is optics ready, making it perhaps the ideal handgun. With custom optimization, my Prodigy was still about $600 less expensive than a Staccato P, but is performing flawlessly and is extremely easy to shoot accurately.

Note: Four days after posting this video (9/3/24), I surpassed 6,000 rounds and encountered 2 more magazine failures to slide lock (original mag with original spring). These occurred when shooting right hand only, and with the pistol rotated 45° (grip not vertical), which could have affected the mechanics. I cleaned the mag and swapped in an Atlas Gunworks spring. Also, as routine spring maintenance, a week ago, I replaced the recoil spring (12 lbs, Wolff) and firing pin spring (extra power, Wolff). Some references recommend doing this every 5,000 rounds or so.
