We travelled for 2 days to fish this spot! After flying from Wanaka to Auckland, then driving to the Coromandel Peninsula before dawn, we head out over the Tairua Bar onboard Provider to target big kingfish using knife jigs. The morning started off with plenty of schooling bait fish lighting up the depth sounder, so we dropped a couple of jigs down and instantly hooked up to these powerful fish. The fishing action only got hotter and hotter as the fish boarding the boat only grew bigger and bigger! The biggest tipped the scales at 20kg.
