Doyang is a river in the Wokha district of Nagaland. It is also a tributary of the Brahmaputra in Assam. Doyang is known for its 75MW Hydro Electric Project. It first shot to fame in 2012, for the massacre of thousand of migratory Amur Falcons for consumption.
However, in 2013, in a complete turn of events, people of the area took to protecting the falcons in their onward journey to Africa. It thus earned them the title of the 'Falcon capital of the world'.
The area, the Pangti Village in particular, took the initiative in leading the way to become a shining example of conservation success story.
Our journey to doyang started from Sivasagar. The total distance being 165kms( as per google) took us 6 hours to cover. The road condition of the stretch from sivasagar to merapani was horrible. However, the road from merapani to the dam site was very pleasant.
The daytrip ended as we got back to Sivasagar after a 14hrs road trip. We didnt see the Amur falcons as they had shifted their roosting site to a nearby village called Aree.
