In this video, I take a nursery-bought Cotoneaster horizontalis and attempt to turn it into a bonsai.
I start with some general branch pruning, then I take it out of the nursery pot and give it a good root prune. I end up having to wash the roots with a hose, and find that the roots are very wirey, growing round and around inside the pot. They were not easy to clean up.
I then attempted to put the plant at a slant, but it was not quite how I wanted it, I didn't want to disturb the plant any further so left it as it was.
I noticed at the end of editing that I should have wired one of the branches downwards, but that small job can be done later.
I feel the Cotoneaster horizontalis needed a bit more refining but again I thought it best that I leave the plant to recover.
Thanks for watching.
