Ever wonder how a meme gets started? The friendship between Doom Guy from Doom Eternal and Isabelle from Animal Crossing may seem straightforward (after all, both games were released on the same day, the 20th of March), but there's more to these things than a simple shared date.

The story of Doom Guy and Isabelle is the story of two fandoms coming together in celebration of their shared love of games - even though these games couldn't possibly be any different.

In order to track down the origin of the Doom Guy/Isabelle meme, we spoke to Agent Strange, who has been cataloguing it from the start, and who commissioned one of the first pieces of artwork that paired the Animal Crossing and Doom Eternal characters together.
