As you know, WE LOVE FOOD, and sampling the local cuisine was a MUST for us as soon as we arrived to Puerto Viejo. Being one of the less touristy, and more unknown towns of Costa Rica, we knew we were in for a different expereince than most people traveling to this country. Welcome back Voyagers!

In today's episode, we make it to the beautiful COSTA RICA ... PURA VIDA!!!!! As it was still the end of the wet season in all of Costa Rica, we decided to try something different and visit the Caribbean side of the country and stay in Puerto Viejo. It was the driest month of the year there, and the best way for us enjoy all the outdoor activities we wanted to do.

And as this is the Caribbean side, the heavy influence of Jamaican settlers and migrants bring a different flavor to the region, which can be seen in the food, the style, the music, and the overall vibe.

Small restaurants here are called "sodas", and we decided to try a few places. We loved the coconut rice and pollo caribeno (caribbean chicken)!

And of course, you can't come to Costa Rica without hitting the beach and going ziplining.

We also took a day trip to Manzanillo to take in the scenery at the national park, and to relax on the beach and take some photos. (check them out on our Instagram @voyageofthesantamarias
