The temperature in Wuhan City is as high as 40 degrees Celsius in August.

This time I came to Wuhan on a business trip, and I used my camera to record the street scenes of Wuhan during this hot summer vacation. I hope you like it.

The city of Wuhan dates back 3,500 years.

Today, it serves as the capital city of Hubei province in central China. Situated at the confluence of the Yangtze and Han Rivers, the city lies within 1,200 km of other major Chinese cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu and Xi’an.

Located between Jiang’an and Jianghan Districts, stretching from Wuhan Customs in the east to Jiefang Street in the north, Pedestrian Street of Jianghan Road is 1,600 meters long.

Jianghan Road has a history of over one hundred year, and it is one of the five most famous commercial streets in China.

Jianghan Road has been famous since the 1930s, when it was called Little Hong Kong for its prosperity. It used to be a well-known centralized commercial area, now developed into one of the most prosperous areas in Hankou, having a high flow of customers and more than 400 stores which sell a complete selection of clothes, appliance, food, commodities and other goods.

Jianghan Road pedestrian street is divided into three districts: the Finance and Insurance District housing the Bank of China, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China Minsheng Bank and many other financial institutions; the Special Shops District overflowing with franchised stores selling name brands home and abroad, small boutiques, jeweler shops, cafes; and the Department Stores District lying many big department stores.

Roaming in the Jianghan Road Walking Street is a quite enjoyable thing as you are surrounded by many time-honored buildings of various kinds of styles, such as Byzantinism, classicalism, European style, Rome style.

The famous stores along the street are the People’s Restaurant and Xuangong Restaurant that were once prosperous before liberation; Jingyi Glass Shop, the name of which was wrote by Sun Yat-sen; China Products Department Store, which was built in order to boycott Japanese goods and gets the present name Central Department Store; Hengdali Clock and Watch Shop, which is mainly engaged in western clocks and watches; a variety of mouthwatering food stores such as Guan Shen Yuan, Huakang Nonstaple Food, Zimei Food Factory, Si Jimei Steamed Buns Restaurant, etc.

People often call Jianghan Road the 20th century architectural museum in Wuhan.

Along the street there are buildings in various styles of architecture that housed old banks, stores, restaurants and statues depicting the everyday life of people in Wuhan. This street brings together many of the department stores and fashion stores, including New World Shopping Centre, Hundalee watch shop and other well-known brands and stores.

Jianghan Walking Stree starts from Jianghan Guan Building in the south and extends to Jiefang Avenue in the north. You can freely stroll around the department stores or other brand stores.

While you are strolling along the street, you can not miss tasting local snacks here. There are many small restaurants offering authentic street food, including Re Gan Mian (Hot-and-Dry Noodles), spicy duck neck, soybean hull, beef noodle, etc..

The highlights of Jianghan Street is not just shopping and tasting delicious food. The rows of ancient buildings in European styles are also quite attractive. Here used to be a British concession.

The whole street is a 20th-century building museum, and has over ten excellent building blocks of modern times. If you are an old building enthusiast, then you must come to the right place. Everything on the street tells the history of the city. Facilities such as public telephones, electronic screens, mailboxes and car parking are available.
