►The S65 V8 found in the E9x BMW M3s is known for its individual throttle bodies and 8400rpm rev limit. Unfortunately, the electronic actuators that open the throttle blades tend to fail with some regularity, potentially leaving you stranded. A throttle actuator replacement is a near guarantee when owning a regularly-driven example, so familiarize yourself with the issue.

The actuators use electronics to turn physical gears connected to the throttle blades. Failures can occur in both the electronics and the physical gears inside the actuator. A handful of engine fault codes will pop up when the failure occurs, so you'll at least have a small heads-up as to what is happening.
