As futuristic s-f as it gets; rich in philosphy and sociological observations.
The story follows Adam Zamoyski, an astronaut from late 21st century who wakes up - or rather, is loaded - from the data reconstructed from his brain, found on the wreck of his spaceship in 29th century. And even though he struggles to understand what is going on, he has even harder time understanding why he even was "resurrected" in the first place...

But the leading thought of the book is the Progress: how cultures evolve, how cultures live, and how cultures die. And how some overtake the other. The crucial concept is the Curve of the Progress: an universal in-book visualization of evolution of any species in the universe with the growth of intelligence.
