Chinese Jets Scramble Against US Military Plane in South China Sea.

The United States sent a military aircraft to the Taiwan Strait, near China, on Tuesday after defense officials from the two sides discussed issues in relation to the contested waterway.

According to the United States Navy, a P-8A "Poseidon" maritime patrol and surveillance plane flew across international airspace as it soared over the Taiwan Strait. Intelligence gathering, surveillance, reconnaissance, anti-surface warfare, and long-range anti-submarine warfare are all within its capabilities.
