It was Christmas Eve, and Olivia was spending the night in the small, quiet cabin her family had once owned. The cabin had been empty for years, ever since her grandparents passed, but something about this year made her want to visit. She needed to feel connected to her past, to the memories of Christmases spent here when she was a child.

As the fire crackled softly in the hearth, she noticed a small, dusty box tucked in the corner of the room, one she had never seen before. Curiosity sparked, and she carefully opened it. Inside were old, faded photographs and a delicate silver bell.

One photo caught her attention—it showed her as a little girl, standing next to her grandparents by a Christmas tree. But what puzzled her was that the tree in the picture didn’t look like any tree they’d ever had. It was enormous, decorated with strange, glowing ornaments she didn’t recognize.

Suddenly, the bell inside the box rang softly. Olivia’s heart skipped a beat. It didn’t seem possible; no one had touched it. She lifted the bell, feeling a strange warmth in her hand, and as she did, the room around her seemed to shift.

The fire dimmed, and outside the window, she saw something unusual—a glowing light deep within the forest, just beyond the edge of the trees. It flickered like the lights from the Christmas tree in the photo.

Without thinking, she grabbed her coat and stepped outside. The cold air bit at her cheeks, but the light beckoned her, pulling her into the dark woods.

As she ventured deeper, the bell in her hand rang again, guiding her like a compass. The light grew stronger, and soon, she found herself standing before an enormous Christmas tree—the very same one from the photograph. It stood tall and majestic, its ornaments glowing softly in the night.

Underneath the tree was a single present wrapped in golden paper, with a tag that read: “To Olivia, from all of us.”

Her breath caught in her throat. All of us? Her grandparents were gone, and no one else knew she was here. She knelt down, her hand hovering over the present. But just as she was about to open it, the bell rang again—this time louder and clearer, as though someone was standing right behind her.

She turned slowly, the forest eerily silent, her heart pounding.

Was it her family reaching out to her? Or was there something else waiting in the shadows?

The snow fell gently around her as she stood frozen, wondering what she would find if she dared to open the gift.
