this is my 5 months old son’s favourite “little synth”(eventhough it is 33 years older than him) - i have to hold it for him while he is chillin’ in his chair and “playin”👶🏼
it’s pretty small in comparison to the professional synths, but still kinda heavy with the 80’s components and 6x fat C batteries 💪
but i like it though!
recently i posted a beat made on the legendary dx7 which actually uses the same synthesis method, just has more operators (more soundshaping possibilities) and more complicated interface.
pss-380 was released in 1989 as a portable keyboard for children and students but it has character and can produce some serious sounds. you have the modulation parameters right under your hands with 6 x 8 positions sliders (7th is volume), modulating whichever from the 100 presets you choose. and you can layer the sound with another preset. how cool is that?
the drum accompaniments don’t sound bad either. i got this one for 30 bucks but it is not just a toy. it’s pretty shame that little creative synths like this are not being produced nowadays. santa might bring my son the new pss-a50 (it has arpeggio, filter modulation, midi and stuff) but it is mono and definitely doesn’t offer that much sound shaping possibilities as it’s 80’s ancestor. on the other hand its much lighter and smaller. i am curious to find out if he likes it!🤞
