On the night of June 16, 1775, provincial troops dug through the night to build a dirt fort on top of Breed's Hill in Charlestown, Massachusetts. With little food and drink, and no relief, the men threw up an earthen fort that shocked British senses at daybreak on the 17th. The men who built the fort at the Battle of Bunker Hill were awake for almost 24 hours... and that was BEFORE the battle even started.
