From bottom we can broadly categorize entanglements into 2 distinct groups based on framing capabilities:

1. Those where our legs are WRAPPED around our opponents and are therefore primarily committed to the task of PULLING an opponents leg to us. This is a double edged sword: our commitment to them acts also as a means by which they are committed to us. A guard pass or a leglock attack are, in this battle, each one step away. But, its easier to hold onto them.

2. Those where our legs are not wrapped around an opponent but where our legs are underneath his hips and are therefore PUSHING an opponent and disrupting his base but where our legs are not able to hold onto him alone. We have to, in this form of entanglement, use our arms to hold onto him. This form of entanglement as far less overall commitment and can therefore be exited more easily.

This distinction is absolutely crucial and something I will talk A LOT about in the future.
