I made this video about our journey in the NICU with my son's rare defect called gastroschisis. We spent 48 days in NICU, from two hours after my son's birth. He had a primary closure 9 days after his birth and began feeding 13 days after birth. A lot of NICU with this defect is waiting... waiting on his inductions.. waiting on his feeds... waiting to see if there are blockages or infection. The days felt long but they also went by quickly. He did come home with a feeding tube due to the need to increase his feeds and get him off of TPN. His bloodwork was beginning to show raised levels that would indicate the beginning of damage to his liver. This was an incredibly difficult journey and I want to share our story so others don't feel alone and can have some reassurance. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
