This is a very early piece of mine that I thought I'd share on YouTube, knowing that my language and technique have changed a lot over the past two decades since writing it. I still enjoy the piece, so had my colleague Gary Gress record it for me recently. I wrote the piece for Sam Hsu, a Philadelphia pianist who often played my pieces with his colleagues. While Sam kindly played lots of modern music for various folks in Philly, his real heart was in tonal music, particularly Schumann. When we worked on this piece together, I tried to write him something more on the tonal and lyrical side. This is the result. I titled it Divertimento for Piano because it has a bit of the light and entertaining quality of a musical diversion. "More Snow Coming", the subtitle, is the name of a favorite jigsaw puzzle.
