Welcome to Giessbach Waterfalls, undoubtedly the most stunning waterfall of Switzerland.
In this video you will witness a stunning boat trip of Lake Brienz and the majestic Giessbachfalls! Get ready to be mesmerized by the beauty of Switzerland's gem from a unique perspective.
Lake Brienz is a true gem nestled in the heart of Switzerland, renowned for its crystal-clear waters and breathtaking scenery. This pristine lake is a heaven for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike, offering a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
And Giessbachfalls is a gem on the shore of Lake Brienz.
This natural spectacle is a great choice for a daytrip from Interlaken, for both the locals and the tourists. If you are travelling by train or by car, it would be most convenient to come to Interlaken Ost. Here you can park your car. And from there you can take a train to Brienz. It’s a 17 min ride from Interlaken Ost. From Brienz, you can catch the ferry towards Giessbachfalls. The ferry dock is adjacent to the train station.
Or if you wanted to do a more leisurely boat trip, you can take the ferry directly from Interlaken Ost. The Interlaken Ost ferry dock is right next to the station, with arrows and illustrations of boats leading the way, so you can’t miss it. The one-way trip takes about 1 hour 15 minutes.
A combi ticket option is there which includes both the train and boat journey. So, when you are purchasing pay attention on that.

This cruise between Brienz to Interlaken made its way across the lake to Iseltwald, a village on the south shore of Lake Brienz. What puts Iseltwald apart from other villages on Lake Brienz is this beautiful castle on a forested peninsula. It is not open to the public, so can be best viewed from the water during a Lake Brienz cruise.
Navigating the vast expanse of Lake Brienz can be quite a challenge, especially when trying to make the most of limited time. With so many boat tour options available, it can be overwhelming to choose the best route to explore this picturesque paradise.
The magnificent Giessbach Waterfalls is the gem on the shore of Lake Brienz. Witness the powerful cascades plunging into the emerald waters below, creating a mesmerizing spectacle that encapsulates the essence of this unforgettable experience.
This is a place of natural as well as historic admires. Besides having a massive waterfall, it witnesses The Grandhotel Giessbach, winner of the Historic hotel in Switzerland.
From the ferry dock either you can hike up to the Waterfall or you can take a funicular to the hotel. One way trip is 7 Swiss francs only. This funicular was built in 1879 and it is Europe’s oldest mountain cable railway.
From the upper station of the funicular, you can witness the majestic Giessbachfalls which cascade down the 14 steps into the turquoise-coloured Lake Brienz. The impressive roar of the Giessbach Falls is omnipresent from the Grandhotel Giessbach.
The Giessbach thunders down 400 metres in powerful white cascades, over 14 steps past the Grand Hotel. At night, this natural spectacle is effectively staged by the newly installed lighting. Although it’s not possible to view the entire waterfall at once, but that doesn’t make it any less impressive.
