Take a walk in the historic German city of Lübeck, which has beautiful, old buildings, a lively commercial life and is not least known for its world-famous marzipan and cozy Christmas market.

Lübeck is located on the river Trave, and the old town is located on an island surrounded by the river.

The old town is also called the Altstadt and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1987.

The city was originally built in the 12th century, and today the old town center consists of many beautiful medieval buildings.

Every year thousands of tourists flock to the city, and especially the city's Christmas market has become famous in large parts of the world. The Christmas market was already mentioned as a special Christmas market 350 years ago, and today it has spread across most of the city with creative Christmas decorations.

Lübeck's city walls were part of a large, star-shaped fortress wall, which in the 17th century replaced the old Lübeck fortress from the 12th century.

The city gate Holstentor 1478 is one of the city's most famous landmarks and part of the original city fortification.

Another of Lübeck's famous buildings is the town hall. It was built in 1308 and is today one of the city's landmarks. In front of the town hall is Lübeck's famous market square.

Lübeck is world famous for its delicious marzipan. The real thing is called Lübeck Marzipan and there are strict rules for how it should be made in order for it to get this name.

Caf’e Niederegger is one of Lübeck's most famous producers of Lübeck Marzipan. The company has been making the world-famous marzipan since 1806, and makes over 30 kilos of Lübeck Marzipan daily.
