On The Scene: China deployed its Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) on Monday to the Taiwan Strait, and the north, south and east of the island of Taiwan for its "Joint Sword-2024B" drills. It also deployed four formations of its Coast Guard to conduct "law enforcement patrols" in the waters around Taiwan. Fighter jets were seen taking off and landing at Taiwan’s Hsinchu Airbase on Monday (October 14), after neighbouring China started a new round of war games.
