The Philippine Revolution of 1896-1898 was started by Andres Bonifacio's Katipunan/KKK in an attempt to gain Philippine independence from Spain. While the Filipinos are ill-equipped, they fought courageously against the well-trained and well-armed Spanish soldiers. In a twist of events, the Philippine revolutionaries would eventually weaken due to internal conflicts, but still manage to gain independence from Spain.

Today, the history of the Katipunan in the Philippine Revolution is regarded as a national symbol for Philippine nationalism, patriotism, and independence.
