Sadiq Khan has gone from growing up being stopped and searched by police to becoming Mayor of London. Today he shares a powerful message for those who have used hateful language for their own personal gain in the wake of the UK race riots, how they personally affected him and he addresses how angry he is at the previous UK government for behaviour which has left so many of us disengaged with politics. Plus in the Sadiq Khan interview he talks about supporting Kamala Harris in the face of a Donald Trump becoming President again and how we can repair our divisive society on my podcast 'Reign with Josh Smith.' This year Sadiq won a historic third term as London Mayor but his road to political success has been an unlikely one. As one of eight siblings he was raised in a council flat in Tooting by his mum who was a seamstress and his dad was a bus driver. After leaving home to become a human rights lawyer, he was elected MP for Tooting, becoming a Labour Cabinet Minister before becoming London’s longest serving Mayor.

Today Sadiq talks about the recent race riots in the UK, how they personally affected him and how they show in our now divisive society we need to hold more space for one another and sort out social media companies (we are looking at you Elon Musk!).

Sadiq also calls out those in power who have used hateful language for their own gain and after Donald Trump's war of words during his presidency led to him having increased security and a wave of racist attacks, how anxious he is about the prospect of Trump retaking power.

What I love most though is Sadiq’s words about allyship so I hope this episode inspires you to speak up and show up for the groups in our society that need us most.
