The smallest of the three pyramids on the Giza Plateau, the Pyramid of Menkaure is nevertheless of interest as it still boasts a number of its original casing stones. The Pyramid of Menkaure is also known for the vertical gash it has down one of its sides which was caused by the attempted demolition of the pyramid by Al-Aziz Uthman, Saladin's son and the Sultan of Egypt, in AD 1196.
