The Water Festival is also known as a racing boats festival in Cambodia. It is celebrated every year in November and lasts three days long, in front of the Royal Palace of Cambodia. Its first celebration in the 12th century. Khmer people always celebrate it to remember and be gratitude to the victory of the navy of King Jayavarman VII (the Great King of Khmer Empire); defeated the Champa Kingdom navy who invaded Khmer Empire. There are carvings at Bayon and Banteay Chmear temples that show naval battles similar to the boat races in present day celebrations. #waterfestival #racingboats #KhmerEmpire
