Düzgün Baba is one of the mythological characters of Dersimli Alevis (Tunceli) and has a special place in their belief system. Düzgün Baba, the symbol of truth in Alevism, is visited every year by Alevis living in different cities in Turkey and Europe.

Music: Metin Kemal Kahraman - Düzgün Baba

Who is Düzgün Baba?
Düzgün Baba is known as “Bava Duzgı” in Kırmancki (Zazaki) and “Dızgun Bava” in Kurdish. He also symbolizes a mountain with the same name near Kıl village in Nazımiye. According to belief, Düzgün Baba is assumed to be the son of Seyyid Kureş, the mythological ancestor of the Kureşan community. According to legend, Düzgün Baba is a saint with a miracle who can keep his animals full and fat even in the cold winter months. It is narrated that when he touches dry branches with his staff, the branches immediately turn green and thus feed the animals.

The Importance of Düzgün Baba in Alevism
Düzgün Baba is considered the protector of truth and honesty in Alevism. He is the epitome of trustworthiness and plays an important role in ensuring unity and solidarity in the Alevi community. As soon as the morning sun rises, Alevis pray to the nearest stone or tree by saying “Ya Hızır”. This is related to the belief that Hz. Ali turned towards the sun and ascended to the sky when he was martyred. #alevism #dersim #düzgünbaba #tunceli
