Negotiating with a narcissist can feel like negotiating with a hostage taker - and you are the hostage. It's easy to assume that the narcissist will "see the light" and will be reasonable. Maybe. But why?

Once we accept the reality that narcissists resent basic human traits, such as reciprocity, and that their version of fair is "I get all I want, and you should all be happy for me!", we have to find a strategy that works.

I HIGHLY recommend you read Chris Voss' excellent book "Never Split The Difference.

In this video, I illustrate one of his principles. By making it visual, it can be easier to understand. I have not yet come across the principle of how to negotiate illustrated this way. So far, my clients (and myself) have gotten the best results possible using this method. Please note "possible" - even the best methods don't accomplish miracles.

As always, before you make any chance to any relationship with a narcissist, please assess the risks you're running. Videos such as this one explain methods, they cannot tell you what is relevant or appropriate in your situation.
