Tim Piatek put out a video asking for some help regarding using a thumb ring for the thumb release. This is a video on a style of using the thumb ring I have learned recently. I really like this style and am getting pretty good with it, so I figured I would share it with you!

I usually shoot off the right side of the bow if I am using my thumb, as the string twist involved makes any sort of accuracy on the left side impossible. A good friend of mine who lived in Mongolia for six years described a slightly different technique to me. Many of the archers who take part in the yearly archery competitions during the Naadam and other smaller festivals In Mongolia use the thumb draw. Some of them actually shoot the bow on the same side as if using a Mediterranean 3-finger draw. The trick is to not impart any twist into the string. That's where the thumb ring comes in. Here's a video showing this style in action:    • Num Sum

I also talk about another technique I've heard of but don't particularly like. It uses the thumb ring itself to draw the bow. I've personally only used it on very light bows and just don't really like how it works.

Thanks for watching and enjoy!
