Routes to Roots - 1960s Croydon is documentary about South Asian migration to South London in the 1960s. This short 15-minute documentary produced by Maya Productions made by Little Red Hen Films tells the story of a group of South Asian women who moved to Croydon in South London in the 1960s.
The film give a glimpse into what life was like for South Asian people who moved to the UK. You hear stories from the Anglo-Indian community, exploring the unique experiences of life for Anglo-Indias who left India following India’s Independence and came to England seeking a new life. There is also the perspective of what it was like for a second generation London-born Indian, experiencing racism though she was born in Balham. You also hear a different perspective from a South Asian woman from Guyana who came to England seeking a new life for her family and six young children. These are the specific memories of a generation migrants who have made Croydon their home for over 60 years. These are the stories of Londoners.

This film was released as part of South Asian Heritage Month on Anglo-Indian Day.
