In this compilation video, our cameras captured the sights and sounds of teen inmates as they were locked up in a maximum-security juvenile prison Segregation Unit. During the time of filming, teens in the cell house were locked down 23 hours a day and allowed 1 hour of rec time. Over the course of days and months, many kids told us the boredom sometimes became too much. Incarcerated teens wound up in "Seg" for a variety of reasons -- fighting in general population, battery on staff and even a few who requested time in Seg because they feared for their own safety in general population.

UPDATE: Sadly, tedman was shot and killed by his girlfriend in 2017. She was sentenced to 45 years in prison.
following our time filming in this unit, the prison superintendent banned long term segregation and instead implemented verbal de-escalation techniques to cut down on the number of issues inside prison walls.
