How to turn a biscuit cutter on a wood lathe. In this video tutorial I show how I take a block of American Black Walnut and shape it into a tool for cutting out biscuits for baking. I start with a blank about 3" by 3" by 5" and rough it into a cylinder. After making a tenon on the end I mount it into a chuck. I show how I hollow the biscuit cutter using end grain hollowing techniques. Shaping the outside, I use a spindle gouge to create the biscuit cutting edge on the outside, and I make a cove. Continuing to shape I create a handle to hold onto on the end. I reverse the cutter in the chuck so that I can make finish cuts on the end and finish sand it. While it is still in the chuck I heat up my brand to sign my work and burn it into the top of the biscuit cutter. To finish it I take it off the wood lathe and oil it with walnut oil. This project is great to practice your wood turning skills and end up with a great cute kitchen gadget that you can use or give away.
