आज आम्ही निघालो आहे माथेरान फिरायला. पागलपंती ग्रुप आज बऱ्याच दिवसांनी बाहेर निघाला आहे. मुंबई छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराज टर्मिनस वरून सकाळी ६.४९ कर्जत ला निघणारी ट्रेन पकडून आम्ही निघालो नेरळ साठी. नेरळ वरून १०० रु. प्रत्येकी देऊन आम्ही माथेरान पोचलो. माथेरानला सुद्धा एन्ट्री फी ५० रु. आहे. आम्ही आतमध्ये गेलो. पाऊस, धुके आणि सुंदर वातावरण याची मज्जा घेत आम्ही पॉईंट बघितले आणि निघालो परतीच्या प्रवासाला.

MATHERAN
The best part about going to Matheran is that you can buy a ride on the tiny train that traverses the narrow gauge track to the top, offering breathtaking sights even as it negotiates the bends and curves. The train makes its way around the verdant slopes and through thick forests, passing on its way a ‘one kiss tunnel’ to take brief halts at Jumma Patti, Water Pipe and Aman Logde. Known as the ‘pedestrian’ hill station because all vehicles have to per force stop at Dasturi Naka and have to either walk or take a horse ride into Matheran. Matheran perched at 800 meters above sea level is an undulating hilltop cloaked in shady trees and ringed by walking trails leading to several vantage points from where you can have stunning views. It is also marked by its market place, a single street, with many restaurants and shops. Spread across Matheran is a mix of homes and hotels, some still retaining their old-world charm of spacious bungalows while the others offer the most modern conveniences.

With close to 40 lookout points, there are many viewpoints including sunrise and sunset and offers sceneries so beautiful that refresh your senses. You can take a ride on the tiny narrow gauge train that traverses to the top. The railway station of Neral on the Mumbai-Pune route is the starting point for this ride.

AIR : The nearest airports to Matheran are in Mumbai (100 kilometres) and Pune (120 kilometres).
RAIL : The closest railhead to Matheran is in Neral (21 kilometres).
ROAD : There are many State Transport buses that go from Mumbai and Pune to Matheran.
