DOTD crews recently initiated the drawdown period at the Lake Bistineau dam at the request of the LA Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries by opening the drawdown gates. LDWF will then determine a date to end the drawdown, and will request that DOTD close the gates. As a reminder, drawdown gates aren’t designed to function as flood gates. Instead, these gates lower water levels slowly over a period of time.
