Bilimbi (tenga) --- Known by various other common names in English including cucumber tree, tree sorrel, bumbling plum, pickle fruit and belimbing, bilimbi is locally called “Vilumpi” in Malayalam, “Gommareku” in Telugu and “Vilumpi” in Malayalam and belongs to the carambola family.
Bilimbi may dilate the blood vessels and decrease the resistance to blood flow. However, you must check your blood pressure regularly and consult your doctor in case of high blood pressure. Billimbi may cause uncontrollable hiccups, mental confusion and seizures.
Bilimbi fruit pairs well with fish, shrimp and heavy meats such as pork. In rural parts of the Philippines and in Maharashtra and Goa in India, the fruits are eaten raw – they may be enjoyed alone, or dipped in rock salt.
