It is possible to obtain manganese dioxide (MnO2), also know as manganese (IV) oxide from an electric battery, neither alkaline nor rechargeable. It is made from the ordinary ones (heavy duty).

Manganese dioxide acts as a catalyst in the decomposition reaction of the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into water and oxigen.

Since oxigen is released it is possible to check that approaching an ember that will turn into flame.
