Turning Images in realistic 3D Files for CNC, Laser Engravers, or for making Sand Casting Patterns has always been hard.

Today, I used VistaSculpt and 3D Builder to turn the official portraits of the US Presidental Candidates to a 3D STL that I use to Laser Engrave a 40x3mm copper coin blank. I think the results looks great, and the process to create the 3D STL using Vista Sculpt was the best I've come across.

So far, I'm 50/50 on the coin toss, so don't ask me who should or will win.

I cover a lot of ground in this 3min version, so let me know if an "extended" version would be of help with more details of what I'm doing.

VistaSculpt is currently in Beta and under active development. In chatting with the developer of VistaSculpt, I understand that future versions will include:
- Done! - Ability to export a Depth Map Image (as well as an STL)
- Done! - More options to finalize the STL (make solid)
- TBA - A "per conversion" pricing option for home and hobbyists.
