Koneser - the former Warsaw Vodka Factory, is a factory complex that has retained its industrial character with new functions. There are apartments, a hotel, offices, galleries, bars, cafes and restaurants, shops and the Polish Vodka Museum and the Museum of Fantastic Art (unique in the world).
To feel the atmosphere of this place, you need to go to Praga Północ in Warsaw, to the so-called Szmulowizna. The name comes from the name of the former owner of these areas - Szmul Obajkower, or rather Jakub Samuel Sonnenberg. He was a banker and supplier of King Stanisław August Poniatowski and the crown army. He owned numerous enterprises: a slaughterhouse, meat warehouses, a tannery, a sawmill and a brickyard. He was considered a philanthropist, he was the founder of the first synagogue in Praga and the cemetery in Bródno. After his death, his wife Joanna Jakubowicz took over the business, becoming the richest woman in the Kingdom of Poland.
After World War I, vodka production began here and a spirit purification plant was established. In the building of the state mint at ul. A new Polish coin - the Polish zloty - was minted on Markowska Street, and valuables were stored in the basement of the factory, which had the character of a strategic military plant. These were gifts from Polish society to the national defense fund. During World War II, many Prague residents found work here, which protected them from Nazi repression. After the war, Koneser became one of the largest producers of vodka - an important export product of Poland.
Revitalized, since 2018 it has been an important point on the tourist map of Warsaw and the new face of Prague.
