Our Environment

Everything which is in our surroundings makes our environment, it consists of both living as well as non-living beings.

Living beings are further classified into three categories on the basis of their way of taking nutrition which is as mentioned below.

1 - Producers: Producers are that living being which produces their own food, like plants. They are also known as Autotrophs in which auto means self and trophs means nutrition.

2 - Consumers: Consumers are living beings that depend upon producers for their food. It is also known as heterotrophs in which hetero means other and troph means nutrition.

Consumers are further classified into three groups.

(a) Herbivores: They are such consumers which depend upon plants for their food.

(b) Carnivores: They are such consumers which depend upon other animals for their food.

(c) Omnivores: They are such consumers which consume both plants as well as other animals for their nutrition.

3 - Decomposers: Decomposers are such living beings that clean up the environment by decomposing dead organisms, they break complex compounds in dead nutrition. This nutrition mix with the soil making the soil more fertile.

Ecosystem: an Ecosystem is a functional unit consisting of living and nonliving things that work together with mutual dependence to sustain a long-lasting system.

Ozone layer: The ozone layer is the outermost layer of earth composed of ozone gas which protects the earth from UV rays which causes cancer and other defects in living organisms.
The ozone layer lets only some of the UV rays reach the surface of the earth. But because of the pollution ozone layer is depleting.

The ozone layer is becoming thin worldwide, this will make more UV rays to reach the surface of the earth.
For prevention from the depletion of the ozone layer, there is an organization (United Nations Environment Programme) in which most of the countries are agreeing to not to produce harmful gases that will damage the ozone layer.

All the above-mentioned topics are described in an interactive and efficient manner so that the students could easily understand them.
