She discusses the ways in which African writers, such as Bernard Dadie, Ferdinand Oyono, and Cheikh Hamidou Kone, create literary works that embody the paradoxes that emerge from Africa being written out of conceptions of the West, while at the same time being simultaneously defined by them.
