President Joe Biden postponed plans to meet European leaders this week to discuss how to help Ukraine turn the tide of war. And while the official reason was Hurricane Milton - the decision laid bare an uncomfortable truth: America is disengaging from the conflict in Europe because it is overstretched and deeply divided.

Biden and his advisers insist Washington remains committed to Ukraine’s victory, but in reality, the summit was to be a warning to Europeans – this is your existential war, and you must take strong action to bolster Ukraine’s defenses.

Hurricane Milton, by preventing Biden from attending the summit, symbolically drove this point home. The question is – do Europeans finally get it?
