The loss of tree cover around the river bank of Brahmaputra, flowing through Assam is depriving the riverine ecosystem of its natural filtration system.
Also, because of the absence of trees whose roots hold the soil on the shores of the river, there is a large-scale stream bank erosion due to fast-moving river water.
SankalpTaru Foundation in collaboration with Jadav Payeng is creating a massive self-sustainable eco forest on the river bank of Brahmaputra to restore its riverine ecosystem and hydrological cycle.
