Sporting CP 🆚 Veszprém HC Handball Highlights EHF Champions League 2024
Stunning Sporting beat Veszprém; Barça, Kolstad both win
Sporting CP extended their impressive start to the Machineseeker EHF Champions League 2024/25 season in round 3 on Wednesday night, stunning previously unbeaten Veszprém HC 39:30 to lead group A with the maximum of six points. In group B, Barça defeated Industria Kielce, just like in the 2021/22 final, this time 32:28. Earlier, team captain Sigvaldi Gudjonsson netted 11 times to guide Kolstad Håndbold past HC Zagreb (29:25) as the Norwegian side took their first points of the season, while Aalborg Håndbold and SC Magdeburg shared the points in a rematch of the 2023/24 semi-final.
after two convincing wins to start the season, Veszprém were overran by a furiously playing Sporting, who won 39:30 and remained flawless to lead group A with six points
six players scored four or more goals for the Portuguese champions, led by Francisco Costa with seven goals
Sporting CP (POR) vs Veszprém HC (HUN) 39:30 (23:17)

40 goals in the first half, 69 strikes after 60 minutes, and a historical night for Sporting CP. The Portuguese champions underlined their brilliant form – and the fact that they are not only depending on the Costa brothers. For Veszprém it was a night to forget right from the start. In the end, they matched their club record for most goals conceded in an EHF Champions League match, after they had also conceded 39 times against THW Kiel (2007), Kielce (2016), and Paris Saint-Germain Handball (2022) in the past. One week after their 41:28 gala against PSG, the team of Xavi Pascual was pulled down to the ground by a brilliant attacking performance of Sporting. From 10:9, the hosts pulled ahead to a 23:17 at the break, and their hunger was not stilled yet, as already in minute 38, Sporting had taken their first double-digit advantage at 29:19. Both Veszprém goalkeepers had no impact on the match, while Sporting’s goal machine was running until the end. The only good news for the Hungarian side: Nedim Remili remains on top of the scorer list with now 25 goals ahead of Martim Costa on 21.
It is an amazing day for us. We played perfectly attacking and defending. The key were the goalkeepers; Andrè Kristensen had a really good game. It is a dream for us, important points, Veszprém have a great team and a great coach.
Ricardo Costa
Head coach, Sporting CP
Sporting CP deserved the victory and deserved a bigger difference in the score. Our game today was a disaster. It was amazing to see how Sporting CP fight, it was an example. This is my fault, I need to work more to solve the problems that we had today. [Sporting CP's performance] wasn't a surprise for me, it was a surprise for my players.
Xavi Pascual
Head coach, Veszprém HC
