Xinyx Unlocked 2024 concluded with a celebration of innovation and IC design, leaving a resounding message on the future of microelectronics in the Philippines. .

The second iteration of Xinyx Unlocked kicked off on September 19 with dynamic pitches from the 12 national finalists in the innovation challenge. It concluded the following day with the exciting IC Design Olympics and a program dedicated to exploring key topics in the semiconductor industry, culminating in a celebration of this year’s winners and awardees.

The Technological University of the Philippines - Manila (TUP) was hailed as the champion of the Innovation Challenge with their LiverScan+, an automated detection and diagnosis device for focal liver lesions. Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT), on the other hand, won the overall championship in the IC Design Olympics category after dominating two out of three challenges: Custom Layout and Digital Design.

We also honored two significant figures for their contributions and continued support of IC design in both industry and academia. Mr. Dado Banatao and Dr. Teresita Fortuna are the 2024 awardees of the Philippine IC Design Lifetime Achievement Award for Industry and Education.

During the closing ceremony, we were graced by the presence and insightful wisdom of Hon. Mayor Ruffy Biazon, Mayor of the City Government of Muntinlupa; USec. Peter Irving Covera from the Department of Education; Dir. Gen. Joel Joseph Marciano from the Philippine Space Agency; and Ms. Kochakorn Khattapan Acidre, Deputy Center Director of SEAMEO Innotech.

Moving forward, our message remains clear: we call on the government to enhance collaboration between industry and academia by implementing robust policies that support workforce development, research funding, and talent retention. This initiative is not only vital for achieving our 2028 goals but also crucial for ensuring a thriving future for semiconductor and IC design in the Philippines.
