Today is Indigenous Peoples' and Columbus Day (2024). Of all the Indigenous forefathers who shaped the identity and destiny of this region, none is more significant than Chief Seattle, the Thunderbird. From warrior to peacemaker, as an innovator and leader, this man set the direction of the region known as Cascadia.
It was in Lake Burien that the young Seattle concluded his vision quest, receiving a vision -- that of the Thunderbird. He embraced this new identity and the destiny it brought. His courage has blessed not only those living in Burien and Cascadia but the entire world.
Burien.News is delighted to share the story of the boy Seattle in Lake Burien, shared by his 6th-generation granddaughter Amber Cantu. Amber brings to the present the life of this great man. She also identifies how we may best honor her grandfather's legacy here in Seattle.
