We spent a few days at the Bluestone Resort in Pembrokeshire, West Wales. Just outside the resort, you’ll find Minwear and Canaston Wood as well as the spooky ruins of the fortified manor house known as Castell Coch.

The walk starts at Castell Coch which was only 400 yards from our Bluestone lodge. The late medieval castle can be found in the woods at these coordinates.

Latitude: 51.7883 / 51°47’17"N
Longitude: -4.7975 / 4°47’50”W

It is definitely an interesting part of hidden Wales. The spooky ruins are very atmospheric and we’re surprised we haven’t heard any local ghost stories about a ‘haunted castle’!

From the castle, the walking route takes us down to the ancient pilgrim's path known as the Knights Way. From here is a short distance to Canaston Wood.

While exploring Canaston Wood which was once part of the medieval Narbeth Forest we find the abandoned Mounton Chapel also known as St Michael’s Chapel. The church sits in a field known as chapel field.

Unfortunately, the ruins were overgrown and fenced off so you can’t get that close to it.

So if you’re visiting Pembrokeshire and staying at the Bluestone National Park Resort, it’s definitely worth exploring the surrounding Pembrokeshire countryside.
